पंजीकरण शुल्क

Definition

A charge for the act of registration, separate from stamp duty.

Registration fee (पंजीकरण शुल्क) is the charge for registering a document — a sale deed, for example — at the Sub-Registrar’s office under the Registration Act, 1908. It is separate from stamp duty, which is a tax on the instrument under the state’s stamp law; a registry costs both.

Both are normally borne by the buyer unless the parties agree otherwise, so put it in the agreement. Rates and concessions change and vary by type of document, so we do not publish them: confirm the current figure with the Sub-Registrar or the state’s registration portal on the day, and use the registry cost estimator as a working tool.
